Parents & Family
A child's first teacher is his or her family.
I value your involvement.

**How You Can Help (Without Knowing Spanish!)**
PROVIDE A STUDY ENVIRONMENT:
-
Find a quiet, well-lit place for your child to study.
-
Have supplies nearby (pencils, paper, etc.)
-
Minimize distractions (e.g. TV, social media, loud music, online games) so it’s easier to focus.
-
Make sure your teen gets enough sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
HELP THEM STUDY & SUCCEED:
-
Encourage good study habits, like reviewing notes/flashcards for at least 10 minutes every day.
-
Make sure your teen uses an agenda/calendar to keep track of homework or projects.
-
You can help your teen study flashcards by asking them the English side, or showing them the Spanish side.
-
You can also find pre-made, online flashcards for each chapter on www.quizlet.com.
-
-
Be an audience for when they're practicing oral presentations.
-
For great grammar practice, encourage your teen to go to www.conjuguemos.com or www.studyspanish.com
-
Discourage the use of online translators like “Google Translate”…students will get a 0 if they use them. It is better for students to use online dictionaries like www.wordreference.com.
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP:
-
If you notice your teen is struggling, encourage him/her to come talk to me…I am here to help! :)
-
If money is not an issue, consider donating items like pencils, erasers, lined paper, notebooks, 1-in. binders, colored pencils, highlighters, and dry erase markers...even the smallest donations are appreciated!
-
If you can't donate items, think about donating your time! Teachers are very thankful for parents who don't mind helping out with tasks like cutting/stapling materials, tech work, etc.
-
Share your knowledge and experience in-person! If you think that you could make a contribution to our class by coming in for a career day, a discussion, a story-telling, etc., contact me and we will work on arranging it.
